Zoe is one of those members that if you could, you’d have her in every class! She has a great attitude, brings a great vibe into the gym and pushes hard every single session. She isn’t afraid to try new things and take on new challenges like the Lacey’s Sugar Detox which she told us was a life-changing experience.
Keep up the hard work Zoe. You’re smashing it!
1: How long have you been a member of Lacey’s?
Since November 2016.
2: What changes have you noticed in yourself since being a member?
My week honestly feels empty if I don’t get to training. It is just part of my routine now and I am a lot more physically and mentally healthier because of it.
I remember the very first session I did at Lacey’s… I was a bit worried in the shower because of how much I hurt after the session and I got nervous for having signed up! Since then, I have come a really long way. I feel so much stronger, fitter and the feeling of being sore after a session is oddly satisfying because it means I worked hard.
3: What sort of training/classes do you do at the gym, and what do you like about it?
Lacey’s 47: You never know what you’re going to be doing and that’s the most enticing thing about the class. I love the combination of boxing, cardio, weights and partner work that you do, and every time it is different. Each trainer also has their own style, so it’s great to mix things up a bit and get to a range of different classes. I find the classes a really great way to zone out after a day at uni and work, plus, boxing on a bag is the best way to get any bit of anger or frustration out.
Bootcamp: A lot of these classes have a timing structure where you work as hard as you can for a minute or so, and then have a short rest whilst you move stations. I find that I work harder in these classes because I know I am only doing it for a really small period of time.
Pumping Iron: I’m quite a competitive person and I really love being able to feel myself getting stronger. You can physically see the changes in your body and it’s so satisfying to be able to push yourself to use heavier weights over the weeks. These are probably my favourite classes.
Boxing: One night I accidentally rocked up to a boxing class (which I had previously done my best to avoid because I was terrified). The class was filled with the regular boxing guys, and although I had no idea what I was doing in comparison to them, Cam was such a great trainer and really helped me get through the session. I learnt a lot about boxing technique that I can now apply in the Lacey’s 47 classes. I am yet to get back to another boxing class – but I am definitely not terrified anymore!
4: What do you think makes Lacey’s different/special from other gyms you’ve been to in the past?
I have never actually been a member of any other gym, but I can definitely tell that Lacey’s is not your typical gym. I play a lot of team sports and enjoy training as a group, and that’s the vibe you get during the sessions at Lacey’s. When we train, we are a team, and we are all in it together. It really is great to be in a class with so many other positive and determined people who push you to your absolute limits.
5: What’s your most memorable moment at Laceys?
The first time I did the Sugar Detox Challenge because it was such a positively life-changing experience. I’ve always had a relatively good diet, but I had no idea how much of an impact the sugar in my everyday diet was actually affecting me. Following Jana’s meal plans, counting calories and training schedule made me feel so much more in control of what I was putting in my body. And the results definitely showed! Although the physical benefits weren’t as evident for me, I just felt so good! I had so much energy and my head felt so clear. I would absolutely recommend for anyone who is interested to give it a go – it really isn’t as hard as it seems!
A massive thank you to everyone who works and trains at Lacey’s. It really is the positive people who make it the amazing place what it is.
