LACEY’S EVERYDAY CHAMPION #3
A founding member and one that has shown incredible dedication and commitment to her training; Emma pushes herself to the limits every morning and is an inspiration to other members- the epitome of a Laceys Every Day Champ and we salute you!
1: How long have you been a member of Laceys?
I joined Lacey’s Innaloo when it opened in November 2016, I’d just moved north of the river and had been hunting for a boxing style fitness gym- Innaloo opened a week before I moved house – must’ve been fate!
2: What changes have you noticed in yourself since being a member?
I can get through a class now without dying (well most of the time…)
My motivation to go to the gym has increased, having different styles of classes, varied trainers and a new class everyday really helps to keep you on your toes and get your butt back each time.
Because I’ve been going to the gym more frequently I feel stronger, fitter and have a much more positive outlook on myself and life in general, I dropped a dress size too.
3: What sort of training/classes do you do at the gym, and what do you like about it?
I tend to go to most 6am classes, I average around 4/5 classes a week so I change it up between Lacey’s 47’s, Bootcamp and Pumping Iron. I like that the schedule mixes up what classes are on offer at the 6am time slot, so you can pick the classes you like most and go to those. I really enjoy getting my training done in the morning to kick start my day – but if I need some extra sleep (i.e. just can’t tear me out of bed at 5:30am that day) it’s good to have the afternoon classes as an option too!
4: What do you think makes laceys different/special from other gyms you’ve been to in the past.
I’ve done a few of the big chain gyms and the classes get repetitive and boring, plus I have never been a runner, so me and a treadmill will be forever enemies. Classes and good trainers have always been what’s worked for me, I like the high intensity of the classes to push me further than I would normally go. It’s also comforting seeing the other member’s faces in as much pain as you are mid-class!!
5: What’s your most memorable moment at Laceys?
Getting the MyZone belt and realising how many calories we actually burn in a class! Also the Sugar Detox Challenge – so many good recipes I’ve added to my weekly routine and the meal plan Jana put together really helped to learn what fuel your body needs when training so much.
6: Additional info (this can be anything from a staff or member shout out to a cheeky comment etc):
My very first class at Lacey’s I died, I felt like spewing for an hour afterwards and my face was so, so red, I couldn’t keep up with any of the other people in the class – but despite all of this I joined and love it!
Each month I print a calendar out, and set some goals for my training, anything from number of times I need to go per week, or extras in addition to classes or even setting a class goal (as in go to pumping iron at least once a week etc). As corny as it sounds I note a smiley face on the calendar for each day I go to the gym, it’s a good way to set out what I want to achieve for the month and keeps me in line if I have missed a few days in a row. The little fist pump at the end of the month when you’ve achieved what you set out to do is a really good mood booster!
