On the weekend of the 12th of June, 8 of the Laceys crew, Cass, Charlene, Taylor, Richard, Dave, Craig, Mike and JC, competed in one of the biggest events of WA’s crossfit competition calendar, the Primal Throwdown, at Claremont Showgrounds. Day one was a gruelling 3 wods, testing the limits of their bodies and determination. The atmosphere was electric and the drive to do themselves and each other proud was palpable. Mike and Taylor, who were both competing in their first ever individual competition showed what they’re made of by giving each wod everything they had. Taylor especially showed her resolve and spirit when things got thrown at her that she’d never even done before, and she still went in with a positive attitude and got the job done. The morning of day 2 brought us back to the competition floor sore and tired, but no less anxious to fight hard for a place in the final. By afternoon, Craig, Cass, Charlene and JC had made the finals. The final was a hellish combination of thrusters, sumo deadlift high pulls, pull ups, handstand walks and rope climbs. Everyone gave their absolute all and at the end of the day, both Cass and Craig had beat out over 50 competitors in their category to make top 10. Cass placing 7th and Craig placing 9th. So many of the Laceys crew came down as a support crew over the 2 days, which shows the spirit of the crossfit community. It’s not just about competing and pushing your body beyond what you thought was possible, but more importantly about mateship, fun and a sense of community.
