3, 2, 1… Oh no I need to pee. All of a sudden it’s my turn. The first girl in our is team up, what if I let the team down, what if I’m not the fastest or the strongest, what if I quit? Then as the buzzer sounds all those nerves disappear and your adrenaline kicks in. I can do this, I will do this. There are Lacey’s members on the side lines, partners, children and friends, all screaming our names. It hits me; they don’t care if I’m coming first in the whole competition, they don’t care if I’m the fastest or the strongest. All they want is for me to do my best. Doing my best means I can’t possibly let anyone down.
The atmosphere is electric and people are screaming for each other, sweat is dripping and bars are being thrown to the ground. The positivity is amazing and all of the sudden you actually believe there is nothing you couldn’t achieve. You push yourself to do that extra burpee, to go deeper in your squat and faster in your skipping. The buzzer sounds and that WOD is over. You look at your team mates who are all cheering and you can’t help but be proud of what you just achieved. You then look around and realise you aren’t just proud of you and your team, but proud to be apart of something much bigger. You are surrounded by other members who are competing who genuinely want you to do well, along with members who aren’t competing but gave up their weekend, valuable time to show they support you. My first competition experience was amazing but I don’t know if I could say the same thing if it wasn’t for the amazing family we have at Lacey’s. And I think on the weekend we all realised how lucky we are to have such an amazing group of supportive members at Lacey’s who just make you want to be a better version on yourself. Cass Auty
